Prize Money and Payouts from the 2025 Preakness Stakes: A Breakdown of Earnings from the Second Triple Crown Race

The 2025 Preakness Stakes concluded with Journalism claiming victory and a substantial prize pool shared among the top finishers.

The 2025 Preakness Stakes brought an exciting finish as Journalism won after a thrilling race among nine contenders. Initially facing challenges, Journalism surged forward in the last stretch, overtaking Gosger to cross the finish line at Pimlico Race Course.

Following a letdown at the Kentucky Derby, Journalism delivered a stellar performance that solidified its status as the favorite in both Triple Crown events visited so far.

This victory results in a significant financial reward for jockey Umberto Rispoli, trainer Michael McCarthy, and the larger ownership group, Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners, who will divide $1.2 million in prize money (80% to owners, and 10% each to trainer and jockey).
