The NFL has broadened its awards category by unveiling a brand new honor called the Protector of the Year, aimed at acknowledging the league’s finest offensive lineman.
NFL executive Troy Vincent expressed that the goal is to “recognize the big fellas” during the award’s announcement, while also praising Dion Dawkins of the Buffalo Bills and retired player Andrew Whitworth for their contributions to the new accolade.
The award will be adjudicated by a panel comprising former offensive linemen and will debut after the conclusion of the 2025 season.
