Caleb Williams, the quarterback for the Chicago Bears, has decided to avoid speaking to the media regarding his future with the team. He missed a media meeting following Wednesday’s OTA practice, further compounding the questions about his hesitations concerning joining the Bears for the upcoming season.
Reports suggest Williams is contemplating his options as rumors circulate about his potential reluctance to be drafted by the Bears. After Wednesday’s practice, Williams avoided the spotlight, creating a void of information that will likely be filled by his teammates and coaching staff.
At just 23 years old, Williams has already sparked significant discussions in the media. According to a report from ESPN, both he and his father, Carl Williams, even considered bypassing the NFL draft altogether to evade joining the Bears, consulting legal expertise on manipulating the NFL’s collective bargaining rules.
During a conversation, Caleb expressed doubts about wanting to join the Bears. “Do I want to go there?” He questioned, highlighting uncertainties about working under the previous offensive coordinator. Carl Williams shared similar sentiments, describing Chicago as “the place quarterbacks go to die.”
In a twist of fate, the USC Trojans standout and Heisman Trophy winner was eventually picked first overall by the Bears. In his rookie season, he set multiple records, including most attempts without an interception for a rookie, although the Bears languished at the bottom of the NFC North.
In total, he passed for 3,541 yards, achieving a completion rate of 62.5%, alongside 20 touchdowns against six interceptions.
