Jon Jones on His Future: 'Not Ready to Say I'm Retired'
Jon Jones, the UFC heavyweight champion, shared his ambiguous feelings about retirement, hinting he may not view himself as finished with fighting.
The saga of Jon Jones continues as he maintains a mysterious stance on his fighting future. Responding to a fan inquiry on X regarding retirement, he expressed uncertainty about his status, suggesting he might not see himself as a retired fighter. Jones remarked,
“I don’t know if I wanna call it retired, I feel like I’ll always have the ability to pop out and show em. I’ve had many breaks throughout my career, my identity outside of fighting is well intact. I’m genuinely enjoying life, I’m growing in different ways.”

After his long reign in the light heavyweight division, Jones transitioned to heavyweight in March 2023, claiming the title against Ciryl Gane. However, a pectoral injury has delayed his anticipated match against Stipe Miocic. During Jones’s absence, Tom Aspinall emerged as the prime contender when he secured the interim heavyweight title in November 2023.
Despite Aspinall’s rise, Jones recently reiterated ambitions to fight Miocic after winning against him in November 2024, dismissing the prospect of facing Aspinall before or after that match. As Jones continues to express hints of retirement without a decisive announcement, he pointed to the UFC for clarity on his plans, indicating,
“I told the UFC my plans a long time ago. I have no clue why they haven’t shared them with you guys yet.”
