Toronto Maple Leafs to Part Ways with President Brendan Shanahan After Early Playoff Exit
Brendan Shanahan, who has been the president of the Toronto Maple Leafs since 2014, will not have his contract renewed after failing to advance past the first round of the playoffs multiple times.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have announced they will part ways with their long-serving president, Brendan Shanahan, following another disappointing exit from the Stanley Cup playoffs.
Shanahan, who has held the role since 2014, has faced criticism for the team’s repeated failures to progress past the first playoff round. His contract, which is set to expire at the end of June, will not be renewed.
In a statement, MLSE President & CEO Keith Pelley acknowledged Shanahan’s numerous contributions on and off the ice, but concluded that a new leadership direction is needed for the team to reclaim its championship legacy.
As per reports, the New York Islanders have been given permission to discuss potential employment opportunities with Shanahan.
“Over the past 11 seasons, Brendan Shanahan has made countless contributions to the Toronto Maple Leafs on the ice, off the ice and in the community,” said Keith Pelley.
