Texas Rejects Ohio State's Bid to Reschedule 2025 Season Opener

Texas has turned down Ohio State's request to change the kickoff time for their 2025 season opener, maintaining the noon ET start.

The kickoff time is confirmed for college football’s most-anticipated opening weekend game of the 2025 season, despite negotiations between Texas and Ohio State. According to sources from Bucknuts and Horns247, Texas declined Ohio State’s proposal to shift the August 30 opener to a later time in order to build excitement or transition to prime-time.

Instead, the clash between Texas and Ohio State is set to commence at noon ET on FOX. The Longhorns under Coach Sarkisian have recorded 11 consecutive true away game victories, including a notable win against Michigan and a formidable performance at Alabama in 2023.

Insights from Sarkisian

“There’s something about playing a big game in Week 1 or Week 2 because it helps in June, July, and August. This game in Columbus is a great measuring stick. The winner will gain immense recognition, while the loser won’t be penalized for this matchup.”

Texas and Ohio State each had over ten players selected in the 2025 NFL Draft, with both teams being top-five in numerous pre-season projections. The Buckeyes are set to feature standout players like Jeremiah Smith and Caleb Downs, while Arch Manning steps up as Texas’s new quarterback, poised to deliver an impactful performance.
