Novak Djokovic is just one win away from achieving his 100th ATP title in a remarkable career. He overcame a tough challenge from Cameron Norrie on Friday, making it to the finals of the Geneva Open.
Djokovic secured a close first set 6-4. However, Norrie rebounded in the second set, taking a tiebreak 7-6 (8-6) after surviving a match point from Djokovic, pushing the match to a third set. Despite initial momentum with Norrie, Djokovic tapped into his best form, displaying his prowess on the court to take the final set with a confident 6-1 victory.
On Thursday, Djokovic celebrated his 38th birthday with a victory over Matteo Arnaldi in the quarterfinals. This win helped him redeem himself from a previous loss in the same matchup during the ATP Masters 1000 Madrid in April, where he exited in the first round, marking his second consecutive early exit in two tournaments.
Djokovic now faces Hubert Hurkacz in Saturday’s finals. The quest for his 100th title has had its challenges, with title 99 coming from a gold medal at the 2024 Olympics. He reached two finals prior to Geneva but was eliminated in the opening rounds of four other tournaments in that timeframe.
Should Djokovic triumph over Hurkacz, he will join only Jimmy Connors (109 titles) and Roger Federer (103 titles) as the only men to reach 100 ATP titles.
