Javonte Williams suffered ACL, LCL, and posterior lateral corner injuries in his knee during the 2022 season while playing for the Denver Broncos. Now three years later, Williams feels he is regaining his pre-injury form and is ready to secure a prominent position on the Dallas Cowboys depth chart after joining the team in free agency this offseason.
“I feel completely like myself… I probably can get more flexible and things like that, but as far as healing up, that I feel like is done.” Williams told the Cowboys official site.
Williams had a standout rookie season with the Broncos, amassing 903 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on 4.4 yards per carry. Unfortunately, after his knee injuries, he’s only been able to accumulate 1,861 total offensive yards and nine touchdowns across 33 games.
He acknowledges that recovery varies by individual but feels ready to compete at a high level again. “It just depends on who you are, it depends on your body… Just to be back out here and have another opportunity and chance to show myself, I can’t ask for nothing else,” Williams said.
He signed a one-year, $3.5 million contract with the Cowboys after spending the first four years of his NFL career with the Broncos. The Cowboys have also signed Miles Sanders and selected runner Jaydon Blue in the 2025 NFL Draft to bolster their backfield.
Williams has been receiving a significant amount of first-team practice reps early in the offseason. “They didn’t really tell me too much about that stuff, all I know is just come in here and work every day, and everything else is going to take care of itself,” he commented about the upcoming competition in the backfield.
