Ross Chastain's Dramatic Comeback Secures Victory at Coca-Cola 600
Ross Chastain, starting from the back of the pack, achieved a remarkable victory in the Coca-Cola 600, marking a historic win in NASCAR.
CONCORD, N.C. – After starting NASCAR’s longest race from the back, Ross Chastain made an incredible comeback to capture the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. He overtook William Byron with six laps remaining, marking the first victory of the year for Chastain and the sixth of his career.
Chastain faced significant challenges, including a left rear tire blowout during practice that forced him to miss qualifying and start from the last position. However, he skillfully maneuvered through the field during the race, seizing his opportunity when Byron was distracted during a lap with Denny Hamlin.
This win makes Chastain the first driver since Bobby Allison in 1969 to win a Cup race after starting from the last position, also being the first in NASCAR’s modern era to achieve this feat.
“When I left the shop last night, I sat in this car for the first time. The dedication from my team at Trackhouse made this possible,” Chastain expressed after the race.
The final results show Chastain in first place, followed by Byron, Briscoe, Allmendinger, and Keselowski, who all logged impressive finishes.
