North Carolina’s women’s lacrosse team celebrated a remarkable undefeated season with a 12-8 victory over No. 2 Northwestern during the national championship at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. The top-ranked Tar Heels wrapped up the season with a 22-0 record, marking them as only the twelfth team in NCAA history to achieve an unbeaten title run.
The triumph was a significant milestone for Jenny Levy, who captured her fourth national title, all with UNC, now tying Chris Sailer of Princeton for the most championships in Division I history. Additionally, it was a momentous occasion for coach Levy and her daughter, Kate Levy, as they became the first mother-daughter duo to win an NCAA women’s lacrosse championship.
“It’s amazing. I’m thrilled for her. She has supported me from the stands during the previous championships,” Jenny Levy remarked during the ESPN broadcast. “It’s not just about being my daughter; it’s even more special that she is experiencing this with her teammates doing what she loves.”

The Tar Heels have previously won national championships in women’s lacrosse in 2013, 2016, and 2022. They currently have a 4-2 record in national championship games, placing them third with four titles, trailing behind Maryland’s 14 and Northwestern’s 8.
This season also matched a school record for the most wins in a single season (22), equaling what was set by the 2022 championship team.
Although Northwestern scored first, UNC quickly countered with five unanswered goals, gaining control. The Tar Heels finished the first quarter leading 3-1, powered by successive goals from Chloe Humphrey, Kate Levy, and Caroline Godine. UNC’s top-rated defense managed to keep the Wildcats scoreless for the last 8:44 of the first quarter and won four out of the last five draw controls.
By halftime, UNC had a comfortable 5-2 advantage and extended it to 6-2 shortly after the third quarter began with Humphrey scoring again. A rapid three-goal eruption within just 46 seconds midway through the fourth quarter solidified UNC’s championship victory and unbeaten season.
