Giannis Antetokounmpo Supports Proposed USA vs. World Format for 2026 NBA All-Star Game

Giannis Antetokounmpo expresses his enthusiasm for a potential USA vs. World format in the upcoming NBA All-Star Game.

The NBA All-Star Game has become a concern for Adam Silver, the NBA commissioner, as he strives to encourage players to engage more earnestly in this midseason exhibition. After the 2024 event, Silver’s disappointment was clear when he awarded Giannis Antetokounmpo the trophy for the East team’s victory and remarked, “You scored the most points, well… congratulations.” This incident indicated a shift towards revitalizing the All-Star format.

To address the stagnation, the league is considering a USA vs. World format similar to the one used for the Rising Stars game, which had previous success. Giannis expressed his support for this idea prior to the 2025 All-Star Game, reinforcing it by sharing a proposed lineup on social media, stating it would be “must-see basketball.”

The league hopes that this format will cultivate competitive spirit among players, particularly as seen during the 2020 All-Star Game when players united to honor Kobe Bryant, resulting in a memorable exhibition. Achieving enthusiastic participation from top players will be critical to the format’s success.
