Marcus Ericsson's Car Disqualified After Indianapolis 500 Loss
Marcus Ericsson finishes second in the Indy 500 but faces penalties due to post-race inspection failures.
Throughout the 109th Indianapolis 500, Marcus Ericsson was leading when, with just 13 laps remaining, he was overtaken by Alex Palou, who maneuvered his No. 10 car inside Ericsson with remarkable skill.
After finishing second, Ericsson expressed his frustration about losing the lead, stating:
“I gave it everything, and I tried my everything – I tried my best, of course. But I had that lead. If I had been second after that last stop and was running second, then fine. But I had that lead. I had that race. And I lost it.”
Despite the disappointment, the SIDECAR team announced that Ericsson’s car had failed a post-race inspection along with two others, resulting in drastic penalties.
Consequently, from a second-place finish, he dropped to 31st in the standings, facing a heavy fine and a suspension for the respective team managers involved.
This unexpected twist meant that David Malukas was now credited as the official runner-up for A.J. Foyt Enterprises, underlining the competitive and sometimes brutal nature of auto racing.
