Thunder's Unprecedented Dominance Leads Them to the NBA Finals
The Oklahoma City Thunder have secured a spot in the NBA Finals with a record-breaking season, defeating opponents by substantial margins.
The Oklahoma City Thunder clinched their NBA Finals berth in spectacular fashion, securing a blowout victory once again. This season has seen the Thunder break records by winning at least 12 games by 30 points or more, a feat unprecedented in NBA history. Recently, they overpowered the Minnesota Timberwolves with a 124-94 victory to capture the Western Conference title.
“This isn’t our goal,” said Thunder guard and NBA MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. “We didn’t start the season saying we wanted to win the West. We want the NBA championship. We are close, but there are still four challenging games ahead, and we must perform at our best.”
This season showcases the Thunder’s exceptional performance, with an average winning margin of 12.5 points across all games, second only to the 1970-71 Milwaukee Bucks and surpassing past records set by teams like the Los Angeles Lakers. Despite a notable dip, 12.5 points remains one of the all-time best averages in league history.
Notably, the Thunder managed to defeat 28 out of their 29 rivals by double-digit margins this season, with the Golden State Warriors being the sole exception. Even Thunder coach Mark Daigneault praised the team’s hard work and synergy, stating, “They embody everything it means to be a team.”
The team’s dominance is further exemplified by their 12 victories by 30 points or more, including a staggering 51-point win against Memphis during the first playoff round. As they stand at 80 wins this season, they are now just four victories away from a rare 84-win season if they claim the championship.
“Happy for the moment, but this isn’t our goal,” Gilgeous-Alexander reiterated. “This isn’t the end of the road. One more series to try to win.”
