Canadian fans have shown remarkable patience as they await the return of the Stanley Cup. How much longer must they wait? With the Edmonton Oilers now in the Stanley Cup Final for the second consecutive season, it may not be much.
The last time a Canadian team lifted the trophy was on June 9, 1993, when the Montreal Canadiens defeated the Los Angeles Kings. At that time, Jurassic Park was raving in cinemas, and Janet Jackson was topping the charts.
Since then, the Cup has remained in the United States for 32 years.
Currently, the Oilers are the only Canadian team remaining in the finals. After a rocky start against the Kings in round one, they rallied back with an impressive 14-2 record, eliminating formidable teams like the Vegas Golden Knights and the Dallas Stars in quick succession.
Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl lead the NHL in postseason scoring, showcasing their remarkable talent. Moreover, with solid defense and a focused goalie, Stuart Skinner, the Oilers believe they can finally bring the coveted trophy back to Canada.
The road remains challenging as they will square off against the Florida Panthers who previously defeated Edmonton in the finals last year, but hope is high that this year could be different.
Until then, here’s a look at how long Canadian teams have waited for the Stanley Cup:
