The Seattle Kraken have officially announced the hiring of Lane Lambert as their new head coach, a decision revealed on Thursday evening. Lambert, who previously served with the New York Islanders, becomes the third individual to assume this role in the Kraken’s brief four-year history.

Jason Botterill, the general manager of the Kraken, mentioned that Lambert’s background as an assistant coach within successful teams heavily influenced their choice.

“After conducting an extensive search, we’re thrilled to announce Lane as our new head coach,” Botterill stated. “What impressed us throughout the interview process was Lane’s strategy and vision for this team. He played an essential role in the Capitals winning the Cup and the Islanders reaching two consecutive Eastern Conference finals. We have complete confidence in Lane to guide this team effectively.”

Lambert’s initial coaching tenure, which occurred with the Islanders from 2022-2024, saw him achieve a record of 42-31-9 during his debut season but he was let go just 45 games into his second season after achieving a 19-15-11 record.

In Seattle, Lambert takes over from Dan Bylsma, who was dismissed after just one season with a record of 35-41-6.

In other coaching news from around the league, the Chicago Blackhawks have hired Jeff Blashill, former coach of the Detroit Red Wings. Meanwhile, Adam Foote has been elevated from assistant coach to head coach of the Vancouver Canucks, and Rick Tocchet is returning to the Philadelphia Flyers as their head coach.
