Alex Ovechkin's Future Uncertain Following Email Error

The Washington Capitals clarify that no decision has been made regarding Alex Ovechkin's next season after a mistaken email suggested it might be his last.

The Washington Capitals announced on Thursday that there is currently no decision regarding Alex Ovechkin’s future in the NHL, following a mistakenly sent email to season ticket holders stating that the next season would be his last. The team clarified via social media that the email came from an error in the corporate sales department.

This spring, Ovechkin set a new record by surpassing Wayne Gretzky’s career goal record, with a total of 897 goals. The contract he signed in 2021 is set to conclude at the end of the approaching 2025-26 season, coinciding with his 40th birthday in September.

Ovechkin has expressed his intention to continue playing for the next season, marking his 21st year in the league.
