Timberwolves' Coach Finch Encourages Edwards to Emphasize Foul Drawing in Upcoming Season

Chris Finch suggests that Anthony Edwards should focus more on getting to the free-throw line as the Timberwolves prepare for the next NBA season.

The Minnesota Timberwolves will watch the NBA Finals from home as they were eliminated in five games by the Oklahoma City Thunder during the Western Conference finals. While it wasn’t a close series, it offers Minnesota insights on how to improve for the next season.

The team faces significant decisions this summer, especially with Nickeil Alexander-Walker becoming an unrestricted free agent. Furthermore, Julius Randle and Naz Reid have options that could lead them to free agency next summer. As the Timberwolves seek to enhance their roster, expectations remain high despite this season’s shortcomings.

Coach Chris Finch is already setting goals for star player Anthony Edwards for the coming year. “For areas of improvement for him, just going to be along the think the game route,” Finch stated. “He has to develop a closing package and identify the shots and spots on the floor he can frequently access. Foul drawing is crucial; leaning into that could be beneficial even if it isn’t his preferred style.”

Although Edwards doesn’t draw fouls like Gilgeous-Alexander, who is praised for his ability to get to the free-throw line, he still manages to seek contact effectively. Finch’s advice seems to suggest that if Edwards wants to excel, he should adapt to the strategies that yield results in the current league environment.
