The Philadelphia Eagles are currently working on a deal to trade pass rusher Bryce Huff to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for a mid-round pick, according to ESPN.
Although the trade will not go through until after June 1, sources indicate that the deal is nearly finalized. Both teams are eager to complete the transaction, and Huff has adjusted his contract to aid in the process.
Huff, aged 27, will be reuniting with 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh, who coached him during his time with the New York Jets from 2021-2023. He’ll join teammates Chazz Surratt and Thomas Morstead, who have both transitioned to the 49ers from the Jets recently.
After going undrafted, Huff impressed during the 2023 season by achieving a personal best of 10 sacks, despite not being a starting player.
Despite signing a three-year contract with the Eagles last offseason, his time in Philadelphia has been short-lived. Although he started six regular-season games, a significant injury caused him to miss five games. Additionally, he was inactive for Philadelphia’s win over the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl.
With Huff on the 49ers, they are preparing to augment a defense that is expected to see several new starters. Although changes are ahead for the 2025 season, the 49ers will still retain renowned players like Nick Bosa and Fred Warner, the latter of whom recently signed a lucrative three-year deal.
So, who benefits more from this trade? We will soon analyze the implications for both teams.
