Mavericks GM Reflects on the Surprising Trade Involving Luka Doncic

In a recent interview, Mavericks GM Nico Harrison discussed the shocking trade that sent Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers, revealing his lack of direct communication with Doncic following the deal.

In a surprising move, Dallas Mavericks GM Nico Harrison recently discussed the decision to trade star player Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers for Anthony Davis. Although Harrison texted and left a message for Doncic when the trade was announced, they have not yet spoken directly.

“My guess is he probably doesn’t want to talk to me,” Harrison mentioned, highlighting the tension caused by the sudden deal.

The NBA community was left stunned by this major trade, with numerous reports indicating that Harrison had been in discussions with Lakers GM Rob Pelinka for over a month.

Harrison believes the trade positions the Mavericks for both immediate success and future opportunities, stating of the trade, “It’s one of those things where it’s my job to make the tough decisions that put our goals first and foremost.”

The Mavericks also cited concerns about Doncic’s conditioning issues, with him having played only 22 games this season. Harrison emphasized the strategic timing of the trade, stating, “We really feel like we got ahead of what was going to be a tumultuous summer.”

As the Mavericks navigate this new chapter, Doncic, at 25, leaves Dallas with an impressive scoring average, considered one of the league’s top players.

“I understand why they would be shocked, initially,” Harrison continues, while elaborating on the future goals of the Mavericks.
