Los Angeles FC Secures Spot in FIFA Club World Cup After Win Against Club America

LAFC triumphs in a thrilling extra-time match to replace Club Leon in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup.

It may have taken until extra time, but Denis Bouanga wouldn’t be denied in front of his home fans to push Los Angeles FC to a berth in the FIFA Club World Cup with a 2-1 victory in extra time. After a powerful header from Igor Jesus at the end of regulation tied the match, Bouanga’s efforts secured the win.

After a penalty scored by former LAFC player Brian Rodriguez led Club America to a temporary lead, Bouanga assisted Jesus in the 89th minute to force the match into extra time. LAFC dominated, outshooting Club America 19 to 9 and finding the net only once in open play.

This victory has earned LAFC nearly $10 million in prize money, and they will join teams like Chelsea and Flamengo in Group D of the Club World Cup, which kicks off on June 14. With Club Leon banned from the tournament, LAFC will quickly need to strengthen their squad with the opening of a special transfer window from June 1 to June 10.
