Odell Beckham Jr. Reflects on His Departure from the Giants

Odell Beckham Jr. expresses his regret over leaving the New York Giants, stating he wanted to win a Super Bowl for the team.

Odell Beckham Jr. and supporters of the New York Giants shared disappointment when he was traded away. Beckham Jr. discussed his feelings about his 2019 trade to the Cleveland Browns during the Champions League Final broadcast on Paramount Plus.

Since his NFL debut in 2014, OBJ has played for five teams, spending five seasons with New York after being selected in the first round. While fans were upset about his departure, Beckham Jr. expressed his own frustration more deeply:

“I never, ever wanted to leave the New York Giants. The reason you heard me talking about what was going on was because I was pissed because, where I come from in college, if we lost one game, our season was over. This was the organization I got drafted to. They believed in me. So if the Giants went and won a Super Bowl, I would be happy. But deep down inside, I wanted to be the one. No question. So it’s definitely something you’ll always hold that.”

Beckham Jr. was traded less than seven months after inking a five-year, $90 million contract extension with New York. Although he won a Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams in 2022, he still yearns for the achievement with the Giants.
