The Philadelphia Eagles and the San Francisco 49ers have finalized a trade sending pass rusher Bryce Huff to the 49ers for a conditional fifth-round pick in 2026, which could upgrade to a fourth rounder based on Huff’s performance, as reported by CBS Sports NFL insider Jonathan Jones. Rumors of this trade began on May 30 but were delayed until after June 1. Both sides were eager to finalize the deal, with Huff restructuring his contract to facilitate the move.
At 27, Huff reunites with 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh, his former coach with the New York Jets from 2021-23. He joins linebacker Chazz Surratt and punter Thomas Morstead who also transferred from the Jets in recent days.
Once an undrafted rookie, Huff had a breakout 2023 season, tallying a career-best 10 sacks without starting a game.
Huff completed one year with the Eagles after signing a three-year, $51.1 million contract last offseason. He was aiming for more this year but faced challenges including an injury that sidelined him for five games. He was also inactive during Philadelphia’s Super Bowl victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.
In his new role at the 49ers, Huff joins a restructured defense with at least four new starters, still retaining all-star pass rusher Nick Bosa and linebacker Fred Warner, the highest-paid off-ball linebacker in NFL history.
