Zion Williamson Trade Speculations: Pelicans Open to Roster Changes Ahead of NBA Draft

The New Orleans Pelicans are evaluating their roster as the 2025 NBA Draft approaches, suggesting no player is deemed 'untouchable' on the team.

The New Orleans Pelicans are evaluating their entire roster as the 2025 NBA Draft approaches, with new general manager Joe Dumars working to assemble the right pieces with their No. 7 overall pick. This approach indicates that no player, including Zion Williamson, is considered ‘off limits’.

Williamson achieved an average of 24.6 points and 7.2 rebounds per game over 30 appearances this past season but has faced recent injury setbacks. Kevin O’Connor of Yahoo Sports noted, “There are no untouchables in New Orleans.” The Pelicans are actively exploring the market to assess their options, looking for potential trades that may alter the structure of their roster.

Williamson is currently embroiled in a legal dispute, with allegations of sexual misconduct stemming from his days at Duke. His attorney, Michael Balascio, characterized these claims as “categorically false and reckless.” Meanwhile, reports suggest the Pelicans could save approximately $127 million if they decide to waive Williamson, who has been limited by injuries throughout his career. Despite these challenges, some insiders believe Williamson remains a high-value player, contingent upon his health and performance.

Looking ahead, teammate Trey Murphy III is another figure with significant trade potential, coming off a strong season before suffering an injury that sidelined him for the remainder of the campaign.
