Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes spoke about the potential transfer to Saudi club Al-Hilal ahead of the UEFA Nations League semifinal against Germany.
Despite Al-Hilal reportedly making a substantial offer of about $100 million, Fernandes decided to remain with Manchester United. He remarked, “There was an opportunity. The president called me and asked if I wanted to go there. They were waiting for me. I spoke to coach [Ruben] Amorim, who encouraged me to stay. Manchester United didn’t want to sell me. They don’t need the money. If I had wanted to leave, they would have made it happen. It was an ambitious offer, and I consulted with my agent and family. Though [Joao] Cancelo is there, I wish to continue competing at the highest levels of football. This was considered, but my choice is made.”
Following Fernandes’s decision, reports indicate that Al-Hilal is now looking at Atalanta’s Ederson as an alternative.
Last season, Fernandes scored 19 goals in 57 matches for Manchester United and has been pivotal since joining the club from Sporting CP in 2020, with a tally of 98 goals and 86 assists across 290 games. Manchester United struggled last season, culminating in a disappointing 15th place finish and a loss in the Europa League final.
