All-Pro San Francisco 49ers left tackle Trent Williams has returned to practice during team OTAs, participating in offseason activities for the first time this spring. Williams, who will turn 37 in July, is back on the field after an ankle injury ended his 2024 season early.
As observed by several 49ers reporters, Williams took part in individual drills, although team activities are still pending as he recovers. A particular highlight was a video of Williams pancaking teammate Sebastian Gutierrez, demonstrating that he hasn’t lost his edge.
“Trent Williams looks to be in fantastic shape. Maybe even a bit lighter, which should be good for his ankle health. And he logged a (partial) steamrolling at today’s practice.” — David Lombardi (@LombardiHimself) June 4, 2025
Williams’ comeback is timely, as the 49ers are heading into mandatory minicamp next week, enhancing San Francisco’s chances in the NFC after injuries plagued their 2024 season, resulting in a 6-11 finish. His health is crucial for the team’s offensive lineup as he will protect for running back Christian McCaffrey and quarterback Brock Purdy, the latter recently signing a five-year, $265 million contract this offseason.
