UConn Coach Dan Hurley Dismisses Knicks Job Speculation While Continuing Tenure

After declining the Lakers' offer last year, Dan Hurley dismisses inquiries about becoming the Knicks' new head coach.

Dan Hurley, the two-time national champion head coach of UConn, made headlines as he addressed speculation regarding his interest in the head coaching position with the New York Knicks after Tom Thibodeau’s dismissal. Hurley previously turned down an offer from the Los Angeles Lakers and expressed his commitment to UConn.

Hurley noted, “Not another summer of that,” when questioned about the Knicks. This inquiry arose not only due to his previous near-move to the NBA but also his strong connections to the New York area, where he grew up near Madison Square Garden.

Last summer, Hurley was offered a lucrative six-year contract worth $70 million to coach the Lakers, which he considered before opting to stay at UConn. He expressed the difficulty of that choice but indicated a strong desire to remain in college basketball.

Currently, Hurley is focused on building a competitive roster at UConn as they prepare for the upcoming season, with aspirations to extend their winning legacy.
