Phoenix Suns Appoint Jordan Ott as New Head Coach

The Phoenix Suns have hired Jordan Ott, a former assistant coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers, as their new head coach.

The Phoenix Suns have found a new leader in Jordan Ott, who served as an assistant coach for the Cleveland Cavaliers. According to a report from ESPN, Ott is stepping into the role of head coach.

At 40 years of age, Ott previously held assistant roles with teams like the Los Angeles Lakers, Brooklyn Nets, and Atlanta Hawks. He and fellow Cavaliers assistant Johnnie Bryant were candidates for the head coaching position.

Coming off a challenging 36-46 season, the Suns are looking to rebuild after parting ways with head coach Mike Budenholzer, who was released after just one year. The team had previously dismissed Frank Vogel under similar circumstances.

As Ott takes the position in Phoenix, the New York Knicks, who also recently let go of coach Tom Thibodeau following their loss to the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals, are now the only NBA team without a head coach.

Furthermore, the Suns have recently appointed James Jones as a senior advisor and brought Brian Gregory on board as the new general manager.

This offseason looks pivotal for the Suns as Kevin Durant nears the end of his four-year, $194.2 million contract and could be a target for trades. They also hold the No. 29 pick in the upcoming 2025 NBA Draft, although they are currently above the salary cap.

The Suns have not advanced past the playoffs since the 2022-23 season and are currently standing at +9000 odds for next year’s championship.
