World Cup Update: Jordan and Uzbekistan Qualify for the First Time; South Korea Continues Streak
Three teams – Jordan, South Korea, and Uzbekistan – have qualified for the 2026 World Cup, taking their places in next year’s 48-team tournament in North America.
This marks the inaugural World Cup qualification for Jordan and Uzbekistan, while South Korea celebrates its 11th consecutive appearance.
So far, 10 teams have secured their spots for the 2026 World Cup:
- Argentina
- Japan
- Jordan
- New Zealand
- Iran
- South Korea
- Uzbekistan
- Co-hosts:
Uzbekistan secured its spot by drawing 0-0 against the United Arab Emirates, thanks to goalkeeper Utkir Yusupov’s crucial second-half saves, winning the second automatic qualification in Group A behind Iran with one game remaining.
South Korea clinched their position by defeating Iraq 2-0. The victory was partly due to Ali Al-Hamadi’s red card, which allowed South Korea to take charge.
In further Group C developments, Australia looks set for their sixth consecutive World Cup appearance following a win against Japan, who played an experimental lineup for their match. Unfortunately, China was eliminated after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Indonesia.
