The championship series of the Women’s College World Series is poised for a dramatic finish after Texas Tech prevailed against Texas with a score of 4-3 in Game 2.
For the second night in a row, the match was scoreless until the fifth inning, when the Red Raiders struck first. With bases loaded and two outs, Texas pitcher Cambria Salmon hit Alana Johnson, allowing Raegan Jennings to score. Later, a wild pitch from Salmon brought Mihyia Davis home, pushing Texas Tech ahead 2-0.
The Longhorns responded in the sixth inning, with Mia Scott hitting a solo home run off Nijaree Canady. However, Texas Tech answered back in the same inning with two runs scored; Bailey Lindemuth’s sacrifice fly brought in Makayla Garcia, and Davis followed up with a single that scored Victoria Valdez.
In the seventh, the Longhorns attempted a comeback, scoring one run from Katie Stewart’s double, followed by another from Victoria Hunter. Despite this, Nijaree Canady secured the win by getting Ashton Maloney to ground out.
