Brad Marchand carried the Florida Panthers to a 5-4 victory over the Edmonton Oilers in an exhilarating double overtime clash during Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final, leveling the series at 1-1. The first period saw an explosive start with five goals scored among both teams, marking it as the highest-scoring first period in a Finals game since 2016 when the Penguins faced the Sharks.
Marchand’s two goals were facilitated by teammates, particularly Anton Lundell, who played a crucial role in one of the goals. Near the end of the second overtime, Lundell made a clever pass to Marchand, who scored by retrieving the puck off Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner’s pad.
Marchand had another chance in the first overtime to win the game but hit the post with his shot after receiving a pass from Carter Verhaeghe.
Despite a shaky start where Sergei Bobrovsky conceded three goals, the Panthers’ goaltender recovered admirably, finishing with 41 saves on 45 shots, allowing just one additional goal through played over three periods.
