Texas Triumphs Over Texas Tech to Secure Their First National Championship in Women's Softball
The Texas Longhorns claim their first national title in softball with a decisive victory over Texas Tech in the Women's College World Series.
After claiming their first national title against Texas Tech with a significant 10-4 victory, the Texas Longhorns celebrated a remarkable achievement in the 2025 Women’s College World Series.
Texas established control early in the game, jumping to a 5-0 lead thanks to a powerful three-run homer by Leighann Goode in the first inning. This overwhelming performance led to the removal of Texas Tech’s standout pitcher NiJaree Canady, ending her impressive streak of 686 pitches.
The Longhorns added to their lead in the third with Katie Stewart driving in Reese Atwood, who initially spurred the scoring with an RBI single. Mia Scott delivered a grand slam in the sixth, extending Texas’s lead to 10-0. Texas Tech, needing three runs to avoid the mercy rule, managed to score three times in the fifth but ultimately could not recover.
Teagan Kavan took the title of Most Outstanding Player of the tournament, showcasing stellar pitching throughout the series without allowing a single earned run.
This championship culminated a remarkable season for the Longhorns, who navigated through several competitive matches, including a defeat of the four-time defending champion Oklahoma and a series of wins against notable teams in the lead-up to this historic victory.
