Knicks Dismiss Tom Thibodeau Following Alarming Player Feedback
The New York Knicks have decided to part ways with coach Tom Thibodeau after player input revealed concerns within the organization.
The New York Knicks are parting ways with coach Tom Thibodeau following reports indicating that player feedback raised concerns about his coaching abilities. Thibodeau had previously steered the Knicks to their first conference finals in 25 years but was ultimately let go due to issues such as inconsistent player usage and a general perceived failure to effectively manage a talented roster.
According to reports, a meeting among players and management brought to light doubts regarding Thibodeau’s coaching skills, significantly influencing the decision to terminate him ahead of the 2025-26 season.
Ian Begley of SNY noted, “The entire Knicks roster held a strong admiration for Thibodeau. Players respected him while highlighting areas needing improvement, which contributed to his dismissal.”
Currently, the Knicks are actively searching for a new head coach. They are reportedly interested in speaking with Jason Kidd of the Dallas Mavericks, as well as considering Ime Udoka and Chris Finch for the role. Dolan and Rose met with key players following the playoff exit and concluded that Thibodeau was not maximizing the roster’s potential.
Thibodeau, 67, was recognized as a two-time NBA Coach of the Year and had guided the Knicks to significant successes during his tenure, achieving three consecutive playoff appearances. Yet, growing concerns over heavy player minutes, including those of Jalen Brunson, fueled the urgency to seek a coaching change.
