EAST HARTFORD, Conn. — Following the dismissal of Ange Postecoglou, former Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino is rumored to be in talks about a potential return to North London. Pochettino, who led the team from 2014 to 2019, clarified his commitment to the United States Men’s National Team (USMNT) this Saturday. He stated on the speculation, “After I left in 2019, whenever a coaching position opened at Tottenham, my name has been in the mix. There are many names on that list; you shouldn’t be concerned about it.”
“If something materializes, you will know, but for now, it’s not a topic we can discuss. It’s simply unrealistic. I’m focused on where I am now. Yet, I understand the interest because Tottenham is close to my heart, just like my former clubs Newells and Espanyol.”
Pochettino, who signed a two-year deal with the USMNT in September, is preparing to guide the team in the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
It is worth noting that the USMNT has encountered defeat in their last three matches under his management, the first coach to experience this downside since Jürgen Klinsmann in 2015. The upcoming friendly match against Switzerland is set ahead of the Gold Cup.
