In the longest men’s championship match in history at Roland Garros, Carlos Alcaraz emerged victorious against Jannik Sinner in a five-set thriller, securing his fifth career Grand Slam title. After a difficult start, Alcaraz managed to win 14 of the final 17 points, demonstrating remarkable resilience.
This victory not only marked Alcaraz’s first win from two sets down at a major but also established him as the third-fastest player to reach five Grand Slam titles in men’s tennis, following legends Bjorn Borg and Rafael Nadal. The Spaniard’s remarkable 5-0 record in Grand Slam finals is the best since Roger Federer.
After the match, Andre Agassi presented Alcaraz with his trophy, concluding a nearly six-hour battle that showcased both players’ exceptional skills.
“It is amazing the level you (play) at,” Alcaraz said to Sinner, acknowledging the difficult nature of the match. “I’m sure you’ll be champion many times. Thank you for being a great inspiration.”
In a show of sportsmanship, Sinner reciprocated with praise for Alcaraz’s performance, stating, “Amazing performance, amazing battle… I’m happy with this amazing trophy.”
