Roman Anthony Takes the Stage: Red Sox Promote Top MLB Prospect

In a significant move for the Boston Red Sox, outfielder Roman Anthony has been called up to the majors, filling a gap in the roster due to injuries. This opportunity comes after impressive performances in the minor leagues.

The Boston Red Sox have called up outfielder Roman Anthony to the majors, a decision announced on Monday. He is set to play against the Rays, batting fifth in the lineup as Wilyer Abreu is placed on the injured list with an oblique strain.

Anthony, at 21 years old, has been rated as the top prospect in the minors by CBS Sports. His performance in the first 58 Triple-A games this year was impressive, hitting .288/.423/.491 with 10 home runs and three stolen bases, while nearly matching his walks and strikeouts (51 walks to 56 strikeouts).
“Anthony, my preseason No. 1, continues to impress Triple-A pitchers. As of Wednesday, he has hit .321/.453/.518 with seven home runs and almost as many walks as strikeouts, despite being notably young for the level. His average exit velocity against right-handed pitching exceeds 97 mph.”

Despite this stellar report, the Red Sox have yet to fully utilize Anthony while they continue managing their roster with established players such as Rafael Devers in designated hitter roles.

The Red Sox faced off against the Tampa Bay Rays with a record of 32-35 going into the game.
