Mavericks Prepare for NBA Draft with Private Workout for Cooper Flagg

The Dallas Mavericks are looking to enhance their chances of selecting Cooper Flagg first overall in the upcoming NBA Draft by scheduling a private workout.

The Dallas Mavericks hold the first overall pick in the NBA Draft on June 25. To optimize their chances of selecting Duke freshman Cooper Flagg, they have organized a private workout on June 17, as reported by ESPN.

Flagg, standing at 6 feet 9 inches, is favored to be the first pick in the draft, and this workout is likely to boost that potential. It is noted that the Mavericks currently have no plans to conduct private workouts with other players similar to how they will approach Flagg.

This indicates a strong expectation from the Mavericks about selecting Flagg with the top pick. If the Mavericks decide to trade this choice to gain immediate assets to accompany Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving, who is recovering from an ACL surgery, they may not receive significant draft picks in return.

Flagg showcased remarkable offensive talent, averaging 19.2 points and 4.2 assists per game in his freshman year and is especially recognized for his defensive skills, averaging 1.4 blocks and steals per game along with around 6.2 defensive rebounds. Questions exist about how quickly his offense might evolve to match his defensive prowess.

The Mavericks had only a 1.8% chance at landing the first pick, largely due to their poor performance after trading Doncic, yet they triumphed in the lottery and are now poised to secure Flagg if they choose to do so.
