Ricardo Pepi Faces Extended Recovery from Knee Injury Ahead of Key Matches

USMNT forward Ricardo Pepi is sidelined for 1-3 months due to a knee injury, potentially missing significant matches.

U.S. men’s national team forward Ricardo Pepi could miss up to three months with a knee injury, putting him at risk of missing the Concacaf Nations League semifinal against Panama in March.

Pepi picked up the injury in PSV’s 3-2 win over Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday. He scored the game-winner in the fifth minute of first-half stoppage time but was substituted in the 76th minute. PSV is currently waiting for the draw for the Champions League knockout phase playoff.

The forward has been one of the USMNT’s most productive players, scoring 17 goals in various competitions this campaign. He has three goals in the last four games for the national team, coinciding with the start of Mauricio Pochettino’s tenure.

Pepi will undergo further tests to confirm the extent of his injury, but PSV has ruled out an ACL tear. The injury may also affect his participation in the upcoming Champions League knockout phase.

If Pepi misses the Nations League matches, Pochettino will need to make difficult team selections given the injuries to Folarin Balogun, who will be out until April after shoulder surgery, and the return of other players like Josh Sargent and Haji Wright shortly.
