Tyler Adams asserts that the U.S. Men’s National Team (USMNT) is ignoring the criticisms from former players as they prepare for the upcoming tournaments.
Adams highlighted that the team is concentrating on their internal objectives amid negative feedback, particularly from legends like Landon Donovan and Clint Dempsey, who have voiced concerns regarding selections for the struggling roster ahead of the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
“We don’t discuss that internally as a group. The external noise is just that — external. Our focus should remain on our teamwork and building towards our goals.”
Additionally, Adams remarked on the absence of star player Christian Pulisic during this camp, emphasizing rest after a demanding season.
“I always valued participating in competitions. I don’t grasp why someone would pass up the chance to play.”
(Translation: Dempsey expresses confusion regarding players opting out of important matches.)
The USMNT currently faces a challenge with four consecutive losses, a situation Adams describes as part and parcel of the growth process.
“Losing is part of the journey. We need to stay focused on our training and continue to improve — success will come with time.”
Adams also plans to take part in the Gold Cup despite a minor injury and is enthusiastic about initiatives aimed at developing soccer fields for communities in need. In his words:
“The goal is to impact communities positively, which in turn helps to elevate the sport within these areas.”
