Kevin Durant Trade Speculations: Five Teams Eyeing the NBA Star as Frontrunner Emerges
Kevin Durant's potential departure from the Phoenix Suns has stirred interest among various teams, with the Spurs emerging as a top contender to acquire him.
Fifteen-time NBA All Star Kevin Durant is anticipated to leave the Phoenix Suns this offseason. Recently, Durant’s business manager, Rich Kleiman, head of Boardroom, has been collaborating with the Suns to evaluate various trade options in the past week, as reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania.
Despite Durant’s contributions, averaging 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists last season, the Suns considered trades throughout the year, even with a proposed exchange that would send him back to the Golden State Warriors, a team where he previously played from 2016 to 2019.
Teams are keenly interested in acquiring Durant, whose contract is valued at $54.7 million for the upcoming season. Reports indicate that five teams in particular are prominently pursuing him: the Houston Rockets, San Antonio Spurs, Miami Heat, Minnesota Timberwolves, and New York Knicks.
According to DraftKings, the Spurs lead the odds to secure Durant’s services. This potential deal could unite Durant with Victor Wembanyama, the 2023-24 Rookie of the Year, and Stephon Castle, the 2024-25 Rookie of the Year. The Spurs also hold the No. 2 pick in the upcoming NBA Draft and are expected to choose Dylan Harper.
With Durant’s experience added to this youthful roster, San Antonio could become a strong contender in the Western Conference, improving on their 34-48 record from last season.
