Mexico's National Soccer Team Relocates Accommodations Amid Protests in LA

The Mexican national soccer team has opted for a change in hotel due to security issues linked to ongoing protests ahead of the Gold Cup.

With the Concacaf Gold Cup set to start this weekend, the Mexican national team has decided to change their hotel arrangements in Los Angeles due to safety concerns. According to ESPN, El Tri were initially planning to stay in downtown Los Angeles but will now move to Long Beach to avoid potential unrest in the downtown area. Mexico’s first match in the Gold Cup will be against the Dominican Republic on Saturday, June 14.

The hotel switch is necessitated by anti-ICE protests that have entered their fifth night in Los Angeles. Amid the deployment of National Guard troops and U.S. Marines to the city, Concacaf has authorized this last-minute accommodation change.

As the reigning champions of the Concacaf Gold Cup, Mexico aims to secure their third straight domestic tournament victory after also clinching the Concacaf Nations League title in March. They are placed in Group A alongside Costa Rica, Suriname, and the Dominican Republic, in what will be their final competitive tournament leading up to the 2026 World Cup, to be hosted in Mexico, Canada, and the United States.

Mexico Gold Cup Group Stage Schedule

Wednesday, June 18

Sunday, June 22
