NEW ORLEANS – LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, IT’S SUPER BOWL WEEK! Normally, I wouldn’t start with all caps, but it’s the Super Bowl, and I thought you guys needed to know how excited I am to be in New Orleans for it. For the next seven days, our CBS Sports team will cover anything and everything about the Super Bowl, and we’ll do it from New Orleans.
This starts with today’s newsletter where we’ll rank EVERY single starter in the game. Additionally, we’ll explore why Taylor Swift might be the Chiefs’ secret weapon.
1. Ranking every starter in the Super Bowl: Mahomes on top, Hurts doesn’t crack the top 10
I assumed Pete Prisco was taking two weeks off, but it turns out he has been busy ranking EVERY SINGLE STARTER.
- First place: Patrick Mahomes (Kansas City Chiefs QB)
- Second place: Saquon Barkley (Philadelphia Eagles RB)
- Third: Chris Jones (Chiefs DT)
…and the list goes on, with Jalen Hurts coming in at 14th.
For the full rankings, you can check out Prisco’s story.
2. Taylor Swift might be the Chiefs’ secret weapon at the Super Bowl
If Taylor Swift attends, the Philadelphia Eagles may want to forfeit as the Kansas City Chiefs do not lose when she’s around. Swift attended nine games this year with the Chiefs going 9-0. The superstitions surrounding her attendance have turned her into a mascot of sorts for the Chiefs’ success.
3. Why it’s almost impossible to get face-value tickets to the Super Bowl
The average ticket price for Super Bowl LIX is currently around $8,076. Face value tickets are rare due to early demand from season ticket holders.
- 25.2% of tickets go to the NFL.
- 17.5% go to the participating teams (Eagles and Chiefs each receive 17.5%).
For further details, read about the ticket distribution here.
4. Super Bowl Opening Night media day scheduled
On Opening Night, starting from 8 p.m. ET, Eagles’ key players will take the podium, followed by the Chiefs at 10 p.m. Expect interesting insights and questions about Taylor Swift and more.
5. Pro Bowl recap: NFC dominates
The NFC has won for the third straight year, defeating the AFC with a score of 76-63.
- Jared Goff was named MVP.
