Overview
OAKMONT, Pa. – The 2025 U.S. Open will feature a significant prize purse of $21.5 million, with the host venue being Oakmont Country Club marking its record 10th occasion in this role. Last year, Bryson DeChambeau secured the grand prize of $4.3 million at Pinehurst No. 2, an amount that remains unchanged this year.
“Our purse is $21.5 million. Winner’s check is $4.3 million. We didn’t raise our purse this year,” stated Mike Whan, the CEO of the USGA. “When I started at the USGA just four years ago, our purse was $12.5 million, which illustrates our progress in becoming a leader in enhancing championship stakes.”
Despite holding steady at $21.5 million, the U.S. Open purse remains the most lucrative among major golf tournaments. In comparison, The Masters recently awarded $21 million, the PGA Championship distributed $19 million, and last year’s Open Championship offered $17 million to its participants. The Players Championship currently tops the list with a purse of $25 million.
