The Kings League's Expansion to the USA: Gerard Pique's Vision Unveiled

An overview of Gerard Pique's plans to introduce the Kings League to the United States amidst its global expansion.

Overview

The Kings League has officially announced its plans to introduce the league into the United States, though the timeline remains uncertain. Founded in 2022 by former FC Barcelona player Gerard Pique, the league has gained recognition for its distinct seven-a-side format featuring unconventional rules.

Having begun in Spain, the league has since spread across South America and recently launched in several European nations including Italy, France, Germany, and Brazil. Meanwhile, Pique and CEO Djamel Agaoua are setting their sights on introducing the league to the U.S.

“The next big thing is launching the Kings League in the United States,” stated Pique during an interview with CBS Sports.

Future Plans

The expansion to the United States aligns with the league’s mission, particularly as they aim to coincide this launch with the excitement around the 2026 World Cup. Agaoua noted that while initial expansions have met positive reception, the U.S. presents a more complex market. The two executives are currently seeking collaboration with suitable partners and venues for the upcoming events.

Agaoua’s insights highlight the league’s potential investment of up to four times more than previous countries, emphasizing the need for high-caliber marketing and staffing.

“It’s like comparing the US with Europe, not just one country. The sport business here operates at a different level, and our strategy will be tailored accordingly,” he remarked.

This strategy includes starting their U.S. venture on the East Coast, offering logistical advantages close to the league’s headquarters in Barcelona.

As the Kings League prepares for its U.S. debut, fans eagerly anticipate details surrounding its rollout and how it will unfold amidst several significant global soccer events, including the upcoming Club World Cup.
