Liverpool Secures Florian Wirtz for $135 Million: Key Details of the Move

Liverpool has reached an agreement to sign Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen, with the deal potentially breaking transfer records.

Liverpool has finalized a significant agreement to acquire Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen for an initial payment of $135 million. This transfer could surpass the British record previously held by Chelsea for Enzo Fernandez, who was signed for nearly $145 million. The total financial commitment from Liverpool might rise closer to $170 million, contingent upon various conditions, although it has been suggested that the maximum expenditure might hover around $157 million.

Wirtz will soon negotiate personal conditions with Liverpool, a process that is anticipated to be straightforward especially since other contenders, including Bayern Munich and Manchester City, have withdrawn from the bidding, as it became evident that Wirtz preferred joining Liverpool. While Wirtz is currently on vacation, he will need to undergo a medical examination before his official transfer to Anfield.

No matter how much the final amount is determined to be, this transaction will mark the highest fee Liverpool has ever outlaid on a single player, eclipsing their investment of up to $115 million for Darwin Nunez. Additionally, this is poised to be a record-breaking sale for Leverkusen, eclipsing their previous record of $115 million shared with Chelsea for Kai Havertz.

Wirtz has been pivotal as Bayer Leverkusen’s creative powerhouse ever since Havertz left in 2020, swiftly establishing himself among Europe’s elite playmakers with 59 goals and 63 assists in 201 appearances. His imminent addition follows the signing of his former teammate, Jeremie Frimpong, as Liverpool aims for substantial enhancement of their squad, which performed superbly to clinch the Premier League title last season.
