Trump Engages Juventus Players in Transgender Athlete Discussion During White House Visit

During Juventus's visit to the White House, President Trump posed a controversial question to the players regarding transgender athletes.

Juventus’s players and staff sidestepped a sensitive query from U.S. President Donald Trump during their visit to the White House.

The Italian football club visited ahead of their match against Al Ain in the Club World Cup. Trump posed the question, “Could a woman make your team, fellas?” but received no response. He repeated the inquiry before Juventus’s General Manager, Damien Comolli, attempted to deflect it, stating, “We have a very good women’s team,” referencing the club’s women’s side, which is the reigning Serie A champion.

Trump countered, “But they should be playing with women,” hinting at his previous executive order banning transgender athletes from competing in women’s sports. The juxtaposition of the encounter added to the unusual nature of Juventus’s visit, which also saw Trump addressing various international matters while the players remained silent.

The game between Juventus and Al Ain is scheduled to start at 9 p.m. ET.
