Scheffler Takes Early Lead at 2025 Travelers Championship

Scottie Scheffler starts strong in the 2025 Travelers Championship, leading after the first round. Rory McIlroy and others follow closely behind.

One week after J.J. Spaun stunned everyone by clinching the U.S. Open, Scottie Scheffler has emerged as the leader in the 2025 Travelers Championship following a solid first round at TPC River Highlands. With a remarkable score of 8-under 62, Scheffler is joined at the top by Austin Eckroat, who recorded the best round of his PGA Tour career.

Rory McIlroy, Keegan Bradley, and Wyndham Clark trail close behind, each at 6-under, while Jordan Spieth unfortunately withdrew from the tournament due to an upper back injury that affected his performance.

“I did a lot of good stuff,” said Scheffler in a post-round interview. “The conditions were challenging, particularly late in the day. I managed to sink some nice putts.”

McIlroy and Bradley enjoyed a complimentary round together, combining for an impressive 13 birdies as both players finished the 18 holes without a single bogey.

Moving to the back nine, Scheffler pushed his score further with four birdies, aiming for a potential sub-60 round before ultimately finishing with a 62. Looking ahead, he aims to defend his title at this pivotal tournament, eyeing a second consecutive victory in a signature event and his fourth trophy in just six starts.
