Kylian Mbappe was released from the hospital on Thursday after experiencing acute gastroenteritis, which caused him to miss Real Madrid’s opener in the FIFA Club World Cup. The club announced that Mbappe’s absence was felt during Xabi Alonso’s first match as the manager, resulting in a 1-1 draw against Saudi side Al-Hilal.
Currently, there is no schedule for Mbappe’s return, but recovery from gastroenteritis can often extend beyond a week, placing him at risk of missing Real Madrid’s group stage match against Pachuca on Sunday. After an impressive debut season where he netted 31 goals, Mbappe aims to make a mark this time. However, significant changes within the club, particularly with the arrival of Trent Alexander-Arnold, could affect the dynamics.
Gonzalo Garcia, who filled in for Mbappe during the match against Al-Hilal, scored Real Madrid’s only goal. With Mbappe sidelined, Alonso faces challenges to align the full squad, and Garcia may continue in the starting lineup after contributing 26 goals last season. Looking ahead, Real Madrid will face Pachuca on Sunday before a matchup with RB Salzburg on June 26, the latter currently topping Group H after their win over Pachuca to commence the tournament.
