Cal Raleigh of the Mariners Breaks MLB First-Half Home Run Record for Catchers

Cal Raleigh's two home run performance against the Chicago Cubs sets a new record for the most first-half home runs by a catcher.

Cal Raleigh, the slugging catcher for the Seattle Mariners, made history with a two-homer game against the Chicago Cubs last Friday. This performance helped the Mariners achieve a 9-4 win at Wrigley Field.

Raleigh’s initial homer was a remarkable shot off former Mariners pitchmate Matthew Boyd, reaching 381 feet to left-center. This connected him to Johnny Bench’s 1970 record for most home runs by a catcher before the All-Star break.

In another highlight, Raleigh’s second home run, which soared 419 feet to Waveland Avenue, elevated the game to a 6-4 Mariners lead in late innings, solidifying his role in the victory.

Currently, Raleigh boasts a batting line of .273/.379/.646, along with an MLB-leading 29 home runs for the season. His trajectory suggests he could eclipse the record of 48 homers in a single season set by Salvador Perez in 2021.

To add to the excitement, Raleigh’s remarkable contact quality indicates that he is set to continue pushing boundaries this season.
