Vlade Divac Injured in Motorcycle Crash: NBA Star Undergoes Surgery for Hip Fracture
NBA legend Vlade Divac is recovering in stable condition after a severe motorcycle accident in Montenegro that resulted in a hip fracture.
Former NBA star and executive Vlade Divac is currently in stable condition after an emergency surgery following a motorcycle accident in Montenegro. The accident took place while Divac was riding along the beautiful Montenegrin Adriatic Sea coast, leading to a hip fracture that necessitated immediate medical assistance.
Ljubica Mitrovic, a hospital spokesperson, stated that a “surgical procedure was performed” and noted that Divac remains “under careful supervision of the medical staff.”
Divac, aged 57, previously stepped down from his role as the general manager of the Sacramento Kings in 2020 after the franchise’s 14th consecutive season without reaching the playoffs. His departure came a year after he was inducted into the Hall of Fame, where he expressed gratitude towards NBA legends such as Jerry West for their significant impact on his career.
Additionally, Divac has a notable history, boasting two Olympic silver medals and winning two FIBA World Cups for Yugoslavia. Over his 16-season NBA career, he played for the Charlotte Hornets, Sacramento Kings, and Los Angeles Lakers, admired for his skills as a low-post threat and passing ability. As a pioneering foreign player, Divac set a high bar by becoming the first foreign-born player to exceed 1,000 NBA games and is among a select few to amass over 13,000 points, 9,000 rebounds, 3,000 assists, and 1,500 blocks.
Before becoming an NBA All-Star and an esteemed figure in the sport, Divac was traded from the Lakers to the Hornets on draft night for Kobe Bryant, setting the stage for a legendary basketball rivalry that would later unite them as teammates in the latter part of Divac’s career.
