Scott Cochran Appointed Head Coach of West Alabama Following Recovery Journey

Scott Cochran, the former Alabama and Georgia assistant coach, returns to college football as the head coach of West Alabama after battling drug addiction.

Scott Cochran, a prominent strength and conditioning coach under Nick Saban, has taken the role of head coach at West Alabama after overcoming a personal battle with drug addiction.

Cochran, who was previously associated with the Georgia staff, is stepping back into college football leadership. He has played a significant role in multiple national championship victories throughout his career at Alabama and Georgia.

His reputation within the college football community was bolstered by his unique coaching style, characterized by motivation and personal connections with players. After his departure from Alabama in 2020, Cochran sought experience by joining Georgia as an on-field special teams coordinator.

However, his journey hasn’t been without challenges. His public battle with addiction to painkillers led him to co-found the American Addiction Recovery Association, aiming to help others through his experiences.

Cochran remarked, “My own personal struggles have given me a unique perspective… This is more than just a job for me; it’s a calling to help young men grow both on and off the field.”
(Translation: Cochran’s quote emphasizes his desire to impact young athletes’ lives positively.)

Now, as head coach at West Alabama, he is looking to replicate the success he experienced in his earlier career, leading a program that previously showcased talented players like Tyreek Hill and Malcolm Butler.
